What is the Lectric XP 3.0?

Lectric’s XP 3.0 is the third-generation model of the company’s popular XP folding fat tire e-bike. It’s a rugged and extremely portable e-bike that takes its simple folding formula to the next level of versatility.

This is the kind of e-bike (or bike in general) many have been asking for over the years. One that can fit into boat decks, RVs, and tiny apartments and still be capable of tackling most types of terrain you can find — without breaking the bank.

The Lectric XP 3.0 electric bike includes a host of nice updates from the previous version (more on that below), yet it retains the affordable pricing that Lectric is well-known for.

On top of this, the XP 3.0 can be quickly folded up in a few easy steps making it a great option for those who need an e-bike that can be stored and transported easily.

Lectric XP 3.0 Review: E-Bike Overview

The Lectric XP 3.0 is the latest iteration of the company’s popular foldable e-bike. Not only does the XP 3.0 offer an enjoyable ride, it’s also versatile and portable enough to go just about anywhere.

Built tough with a high-quality folding frame, the XP 3.0 is available in both step-over and step-through versions, offering something for riders of all types. Older riders and individuals with mobility challenges will really appreciate the step-though frame option, a design that makes it effortless to get on and off the bike.

The XP 3.0 is also equipped with 20″ x 3″ fat tires that are pre-treated with slime to prevent flats, and the adjustable front fork suspension with 50 mm of travel provides a smooth ride even when things get rough. An ultra-reliable SHIMANO 7-speed drivetrain adds further convenience, and the powerful Tektro 180 mm mechanical disc brakes offer consistent stopping power and control in all conditions.

The integrated rear rack is especially impressive on the XP 3.0 — welded to the frame, it’s capable of carrying up to 150 lbs. of payload capacity. The bike is also fitted with metal fenders to keep the rider clean and dry in wet conditions, and there’s an LED headlight and taillight for nighttime visibility, allowing you to ride safely in the dark.

The XP 3.0 can be configured as a Class 1, Class 2, or Class 3 e-bike. The bike’s 500W rear hub motor puts out 1,092W of peak output and 55Nm of torque, providing plenty of get-up-and-go for both around-town commutes and off-road, trail-riding adventures.

Lastly, you have two battery options with this new model — a standard 48V 10.4Ah LiPo battery that delivers up to 45 miles of range, and an upgraded 48V 14Ah extended-range option for 65 miles of range per charge (for even greater range, check out the top-of-the-line Lectric XPremium which offers 100+ miles of range per charge). A handy thumb throttle and 5 pedal-assist levels are matched with a cadence sensor for effortless speed and acceleration.

    Lectric XP 3.0 vs. XP 2.0 — What's Different?

The Lectric XP 2.0 and the new Lectric XP 3.0 are two models that have been cut from the same cloth — but what’s different between the two? Quite a bit, actually.

The XP 3.0 has a fully integrated rear rack with a max carrying capacity of 150 lbs, great for hauling shopping supplies, trip gear, and whatever else you might need to bring along on your adventures. The bike’s display also includes a brand new Passenger Mode that regulates speed for added safety — a great feature for those who regularly ride with a passenger.

The XP 3.0’s hub motor has been completely redesigned and the peak output increased for faster speeds and improved hill climbing abilities. Additionally, the controller was boosted from 18-amps to 20-amps which helps reduce burnouts and failures. The freewheel was also updated, going from a 14-28 tooth to an 11-28 tooth to greatly improve pedaling efficiency.

Larger 180mm brake rotors also provide enhanced stopping power when you need it, while the front suspension fork travel is bumped up from 40mm to 50mm to improve off-road riding comfort. On top of that, the saddle and grips have been redesigned for improved comfort.

Finally, the Lectric XP 3.0 is available in refreshing new paint finishes to give this e-bike a stylish look.

    Size and Weight

The Lectric XP 3.0 e-bike is lightweight at 64 pounds and has a max capacity of 330 pounds. Unfolded, it measures 66″x25″x47″ and can be folded up to 37″x18″x28″ for easy storage in small spaces or transport. The 24″ standover height and the adjustable seat height (32″-42″) make it suitable for riders between 4’10” and 6’5″.

    Performance and Ride

When it comes to the overall riding experience, the Lectric XP 3.0 packs a lot of punch. This bike is exceptionally easy to ride and has well-balanced handling. The 180mm Tektro brakes provide more than adequate stopping power, and deceleration is smooth and predictable.

At the heart of the ride feel is a 20″ x 3″ fat tire setup paired with a front suspension fork. Together, this duo does a nice job of soaking up mild bumps and absorbing surface imperfections, delivering a soft, smooth ride even on rough roads.

The rear hub motor offers up plenty of torque and acceleration, making quick work of abrupt changes in terrain while maintaining steady, predictable power delivery throughout. It’s not the most powerful bike in its class but it provides a fun, spirited ride that ranks highly when it comes to riding comfort.

    Build Quality

The Lectric XP 3.0 continues the company’s tradition of tough and durable electric bikes. It arrives fully assembled and extremely well-packed from the Lectric factory, with high-quality componentry and a good fit and finish. The XP 3.0’s overall durability is much better than many other folding frame e-bikes on the market and this is definitely one of the major tradeoffs you make when opting for a folding frame design.

    Appearance

The Lectric XP 3.0 is an impressive-looking ride, and the model’s rear rack, chunky tires, and front suspension fork give it an undeniable utilitarian vibe. The premium finish is well-done on this bike, but we’d really love to see some additional color options offered such as the great-looking Lectric Blue and Sandstorm colorways offered on the brand’s entry-level XP Lite.

    Included Accessories & Optional Add-ons

Lectric ships the XP 3.0 with a headlight, taillight, full fenders, and a rear cargo rack. At the moment, Lectric is also throwing in a free bonus accessory bundle that comes with a bike lock, bottle holder, and a Lectric water bottle.

In addition to the standard configuration, the XP 3.0 can also be upgraded with a long-range battery, Passenger Package, or Cargo Package. The Passenger Package includes a rear passenger seat, passenger handlebar, and foot pegs, while the Cargo Package comes with a front rack, small basket, and large basket, making it the ultimate setup for hauling lots of gear or doing e-bike deliveries.

Lastly, Lectric also sells a wide variety of top-notch replacement parts and accessories on its website, including helmets, racks, batteries, and more.

If you’re looking for a foldable electric bike that’s easy to customize and can be set up according to how you’ll be using the bike, the XP 3.0 is a great way to go.

    Warranty & Customer Support

Lectric bikes come with a 1-year warranty, which is also one of the longest out there. Unlike some other electric bike producers, Lectric sticks around long after the sale and provides outstanding customer support. The brand goes out of its way to make sure each customer is taken care of and serviced accordingly.

As mentioned earlier, Lectric’s customer service team is USA-based. Moreover, they’re very easy to reach — the company provides several contact options, including phone (which is recommended), email, and a contact form right on the brand’s website. Whenever we’re doing an e-bike review, we always interact with the brand’s customer service department to get an idea of what buyers can expect — when  you call Lectric, you’re immediately connected to a native English speaker, which makes communication much easier. Emails are typically answered within a day or two so that’s certainly an option as well.

    Final Thoughts

The Lectric XP series has been making waves in the e-bike world for several years, and this latest iteration is the most impressive to date. The XP 3.0 brings with it a bunch of nice upgrades over the original XP and XP 2.0, while still managing to keep the prices reasonably low enough to make it a great value option in its class.

This bike’s perfect for those who need a ride that’ll fit on a sailboat or RV and still be powerful enough for fairly generous trail rides. Its compact, folding design makes it super easy to transport the XP 3.0, and there’s no need for an expensive, difficult-to-install e-bike rack. I also have to commend Lectric’s build quality and component bundle; it feels and looks like a bike that was designed to last (we’d expect no less from this company).

Throw in the option for a long-range battery, step-through frame, and well-priced Passenger and Cargo Packages, and there isn’t much else you’d need from a fat tire folder. All in all, the Lectric XP 3.0 is a no-brainer if you’re in the market for a reliable and feature-packed foldable electric bike.
