Ride1UP Roadster V2 Review: E-Bike Overview
The Roadster V2 may be the best-looking urban commuter e-bike on the market, at least that’s what we thought when we were initially introduced to the model. The Roadster V2’s design is sleek and discreet, with a modern, minimalist vibe that doesn’t scream out that it’s an electric-powered bike. A bike that blends in well with a crowd of traditional single-speed urban bicycles, we also like the fact that the Roadster V2 is less prone to attracting the attention of opportunistic bike thieves. To most, this bike really doesn’t look like an e-bike — the Roadster V2 flies under the radar, appearing to be a traditional, non-electric road bike.
The Ride1UP Roadster V2 features a 350W Shengyi rear hub motor and a Samsung 36V 7Ah battery that’s beautifully integrated into the bike’s downtube. The battery is non-removable (unless for repairs or replacement) and charging is made possible through the use of a covered charging port over the bike’s bottom bracket.
The well-built frame is crafted from 6061 aluminum alloy and is available in two sizes — 52cm and 58cm. The Roadster V2 is also available in an optional Gravel Edition that equips it for light off-road use and adds a Gates belt drive.
This is a Class 3 electric bike that’s very lightweight, weighing in at only 33 pounds. Capable of delivering up to 30 miles of range on a single charge, the Roadster V2 is a highly-efficient ride that has the juice to tackle hilly terrain and quickly get you to your desired destination.
With 5 pedal-assist levels and a cadence sensor, the single-speed Roadster V2 is capable of reaching speeds of up to 24 mph. Like the Ride1UP Prodigy, the Roadster V2 does not come equipped with a throttle, so motor control is left entirely up to the rider’s pedaling (if that’s a deal-breaker, we recommend checking out Ride1UP’s Core-5).
Stopping power is provided by the bike’s Tektro R315 caliper brakes. These easy-to-adjust rim brakes pair well with the Roadster V2 and do a good job of stopping this lightweight commuter in its tracks.
All in all, Ride1UP’s Roadster V2 is a super fun, well-designed e-bike that packs an impressive amount of bang for the buck. If you’re shopping around for an e-bike to ride around town, this affordable stunner is hard to top in our opinion.
The Ride1UP Roadster V2 is 68.5″ long with a 43″ wheelbase. The bike has a standover height of 33″, a handlebar height of 38″, and it weighs in at only 33 lbs.

Ride1UP’s Roadster V2 delivers a comfortable ride, especially given the bike’s aggressive forward-leaning riding position. The efficient 350W rear hub motor does a good job of powering the bike around town and up hills, and the motor’s smaller size contributes to the Roadster V2’s impressively lightweight.
For city commuting, we definitely prefer a bike that’s super easy to maneuver, and the Roadster V2 does not disappoint with its outstanding corning ability. This is an e-bike that’s ideal for navigating crowded city streets and the nimble handling really makes for an enjoyable riding experience.
Build quality on the Roadster V2 is good and the bike arrives well-packaged and approximately 90% assembled. Assembly only takes a few minutes to complete and isn’t difficult, thanks to Ride 1UP’s detailed assembly video.
As mentioned, Ride1UP’s Roadster V2 is a stunning e-bike. It features a well-thought-out, streamlined design that doesn’t look like a typical electric bike. We think that this makes the Roadster V2 a perfect option for cycling purists who might be looking to branch out and test the e-bike waters a bit — Ride1UP did a great job of packing the fun factor and impressive performance of an electric bike into a very traditional bicycle design. Fixie fans will also be drawn to this model, with its minimalistic, hipster vibe.
Included with the Roadster V2 is a 36V 2 amp charger and toolset for easy assembly. Like other consumer-direct e-bike companies, Ride1UP also sells a nice range of optional add-ons that can be used to upgrade your ride.
While Ride1UP includes a rear cargo rack with several of its other commuter bikes, the Roadster V2 features a minimalist design that’s been stripped of extras like fenders and racks. This won’t be a big deal for most riders, but if you routinely need to carry items such as shopping bags and groceries, that is something that should be taken into consideration.
Ride1UP is a brand that’s well-known for standing behind its electric bikes, and the company includes a 1-year warranty with the Roadster V2 which covers you in the event of a manufacturing defect. Additionally, Ride1UP throws in a generous 30-day money-back guarantee and doesn’t charge outrageous restocking fees like several other companies we’ve reviewed.
Also, as part of e-bike testing process, we always check the responsiveness of each brand’s customer service department. Ride1UP can be reached via a toll-free phone number or the contact form on the company’s website, and we found them to be very responsive. Stephen over at Ride1UP sent us a friendly, same-day response to our submitted inquiry…

Final Thoughts: A New Era of Urban Commuting
The Ride1UP Roadster V2 is an e-bike that’s ideal for everyday urban commuting in a city like Portland, Seattle, or San Francisco. It really ticks all of the boxes in terms of affordability, ride quality, and fun factor — making this one of the industry’s best electric bikes for city dwellers in search of a very reasonably-priced vehicle replacement.
The Roadster V2 is a great value-for-money electric bike that’s easy to ride and it looks great to boot. For around $1,000, you get an extremely well-designed e-bike that looks nicer than many competing models in higher-price ranges. We’re also impressed by Ride1UP’s commitment to customer service and the fact they’re willing to stand behind their bikes with a 1-year warranty and 30-day money-back guarantee.
