    Ride1UP 700 Series Review: E-Bike Overview

There’s no doubt that the Ride1UP 700 Series was created with the city commute in mind. From the beginning, the company’s focus was on creating an e-bike that was affordable, easy to ride, and capable of delivering outstanding performance. We can confidently report that Ride1UP accomplished these things and more with its 700 Series model.

So who is the 700 Series right for? Beginners and experienced riders of all ages will find this e-bike enjoyable thanks to the versatile design and comfortable riding position, and the step-through frame version is perfect for riders who lack the mobility needed to comfortably mount and dismount the standard XR frame.

The impressively strong BAFANG 750 rear hub motor produces 60 Nm of torque and the 48V 15Ah battery can deliver up to 50 miles of range for this Class 3 e-bike. This combination makes for a very capable e-bike that’s ready for city streets and light trails, and the brand-name component package results in an electric bike that sits at the top of its class in terms of overall value and performance.

    Size and Weight

The Ride1UP 700 Series weighs in at 62 lbs and has a total weight capacity of 275 lbs. The bike is 70″ long with a 43″ wheelbase. For riders who find the standard XR frame configuration difficult to mount, there’s an ST version with a convenient step-through frame for easier mounting and dismounting — a great option for senior citizens and those who suffer from reduced flexibility. Also, if you happen to be in the market for an urban commuter but want a lighter bike without all the extras, Ride1UP’s Core-5 is a solid choice.

    Performance and Ride

The ride quality of the Ride1UP 700 Series is excellent. From its comfortable upright riding position to the 100mm Mozo hydraulic front fork suspension, the 700 Series is designed to be a comfortable city commuter that’s a joy to ride.

The 700 Series’ BAFANG 750W rear geared hub motor provides plenty of zip and 60Nm of torque and the 48V 15Ah battery (Samsung cells) delivers a respectable 50-mile range.

The 700 Series comes with a cadence sensor and 5 pedal assist levels. Top speed is rated at 28 mph using pedal assist, and 20 mph with the throttle (we really missed having throttle mode on Ride1UP’s Prodigy and Roadster V2 models). Shifting is super smooth, thanks to the Shimano Acera 8-speed shifter. The 8-speed shifter gives riders the ability to tweak the performance of the 700 Series a bit better than 7-speed competitors, which is a nice plus.

While the 700 Series is not designed with heavy off-road usage in mind, it can handle light all-terrain duty and the stock Schwalbe Super-Moto X e-bike touring tires are a good all-around choice that perform well across a variety of surfaces.

    Build Quality

Ride1UP has always been known for producing e-bikes with solid build quality, and the 700 Series is no exception. From the brand name components to the fit and finish, this is a high-quality electric bicycle that delivers a lot more value than most other models in its category.

    Appearance

While styling ratings are always somewhat subjective, we think the Ride1UP 700 Series is a nice-looking e-bike with its subtle, minimalist vibe and matte paint finish. Available in two colorways (Gunmetal Gray Matte and Steel Blue Matte), the 700 Series takes a muted, lower-profile approach than other brands with their flashy, attention-grabbing color options. This, along with the integrated battery, help the 700 Series to maintain a modern-yet-stealthy profile that’s far less likely to attract the wrong kind of attention.

    Included Accessories & Optional Add-ons

Ride1UP includes full fenders and a rear cargo rack with the 700 Series. Additionally, the company has a growing accessory range and there are several nice accessories that you can upgrade your Series 700 with, including panniers, phone mounts, front baskets, and more.

    Warranty & Customer Support

Ride1UP is a brand that stands behind the bikes they make, providing a 1-year warranty that covers you in the event of a manufacturing defect. Additionally, the company offers an extremely generous 30-day money-back guarantee and Ride1UP doesn’t charge restocking fees like most other consumer-direct electric bike brands.

As far as customer service goes, the company can be reached via a toll-free phone number as well as its website contact form. Also, whenever we are rating e-bikes at Recharged Rides, we always test the responsiveness of each company’s customer service department. Stephen from 1RideUP’s customer support department sent us a speedy, same-day reply to our submitted inquiry…

    FAQs

All of the electric bikes from Ride1UP are manufactured in China.

Ride1UP's 700 Series model is a Class 3 electric bike.

While Ride1UP's 700 Series model is not waterproof, it is water-resistant and includes an IP65 rating.

Typically, it takes approximately 6 hours to charge the 700 Series' high-capacity battery.

While Ride1UP's 500 Series and 700 Series bikes are closely related, there are some key differences that you should be aware of. First of all, the 700 Series offers better range, faster cruising speeds, fenders and rear rack (unless you opt for the more expensive upgraded 500 Series configuration), and nicer-looking aesthetics. The 500 Series is obviously cheaper which is a big draw for budget-conscious riders, and it's also about 7 lbs lighter.

This bike offers a top speed of 20 mph when using throttle mode and a higher top speed of 28 mph when riding with pedal-assist (PAS).

    Final Thoughts

Ride1Up’s 700 Series e-bike is one of the more impressive and surprising deals we’ve seen as of late, packing in an incredible amount of features and performance for a bike in this price range. With an MSRP well under $2,000, the 700 series brings things to the table that are typically reserved for higher-priced e-bikes. For $1,695, you get a brand-name componentry package, very nice build quality, front and rear hydraulic brakes, BAFANG 750W motor, 48V 17.5Ah high-capacity battery, and much more. If the cost of entry is still a bit too high for your budget, we highly recommend checking out Ride1UP’s 500 Series which offers a similar riding experience at an entry-level price point.

The 700 Series also features a very nice design, with a fairly minimalist aesthetic. We really appreciate the simple, clean design and it’s an e-bike that won’t look out of place on the street or attract the wrong kind of attention.

It’s also nice that Ride1UP provides a few color options as well as a step-through frame configuration. All riders are different and Ride1UP understands this fact, providing its customers with choices — an area where many brands fall short.

All in all, if you’re looking for a well-built, reliable electric commuter that’s fun to ride and is available at a price that won’t break the bank, you’ll find that the 700 Series from Ride1UP is a pretty tough e-bike to beat.
