What is the Bakcou Flatlander?
A rear hub motor version of the best-selling Bakcou Mule hunting e-bike, the Flatlander brings hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts the same great features as the brand’s most popular model in a more affordable and less powerful configuration designed for flatter terrain.
Recognizing that the Mule is overkill for many hunters who simply don’t need an ultra-powerful mid-drive motor that puts out 160Nm of torque, Bakcou introduced the Flatlander to its electric bike range in 2020 and it’s been one of the brand’s top-selling models ever since.

About Bakcou
The Bakcou brand was originally launched in 2016 by Dave Andre and Bryan Child. Rooted in a passion for the backcountry, the Bakcou electric bike line was introduced as a way for avid sportsmen to enjoy the outdoors without the pollution and disturbance caused by traditional hunting vehicles like an ATV (all-terrain vehicles such as quads) or UTV (utility task vehicles such as side-by-sides).
Bakcou hunting e-bikes are built to incredibly high standards and backed by a rock-solid 1-year warranty that provides customers with full coverage in the event of a manufacturing defect.

Bakcou Flatlander Review: E-Bike Overview
Available in six different color options (Matte Black, Realtree Edge, Gloss White, Matte Desert Tan, Matte Cavalry Blue, and Matte Army Green) and four different 48V battery configurations (17.5Ah, 19.2Ah, 21Ah, and 25Ah), the Bakcou Flatlander is an affordable, high-performance hunting e-bike that delivers rugged durability, top-shelf features, and a comfortable riding experience. As mentioned, Bakcou added the Flatlander to its fat tire electric bike range as a less expensive, rear hub motor alternative to the mid-drive powered Mule.
Crafted from high-end 6061 aluminum alloy, the Flatlander’s tough frame can support up to 300 pounds of weight, and the bike rolls on massive 26″ by 4″ MAXXIS Minion fat tires for versatile, all-terrain performance.
The Flatlander is powered by a BAFANG 750W rear hub motor that puts out 85Nm of torque and a long-range lithium-ion battery (battery life will obviously depend on the battery configuration selected at the time of purchase). The SHIMANO drivetrain delivers smooth shifting and the dual-piston Tektro hydraulic disc brakes provide plenty of stopping power in both wet and dry conditions.
Up front, there’s a BCEB GT MRK AIR suspension fork with 100mm of travel. There’s also a full-color BAFANG LCD display and removable thumb throttle mounted to the left side of the 740mm wide handlebars.
Bakcou includes mud fenders and a bright 400-lumen headlight which really comes in handy during nighttime rides and in low-light situations. There’s also a heavy-duty rear rack on the bike that is ideal for hauling small game, camping gear, or attaching pannier bags.
Size and Weight
The Bakcou Flatlander weighs in at 63 lbs and is suitable for riders from 5’8″ to 6’8″. Riders who are shorter than 5’8″ should check out Bakcou’s Flatlander ST with its step-through frame.

Performance and Ride
Bakcou’s Flatlander delivers impressive performance for a rear hub motor ride. While it’s definitely a few notches below the Mule, the 750W BAFANG motor provides plenty of power for normal uphill climbing and towing.
The front air shocks and MAXXIS fat tires deliver a comfortable ride that handles well in mud, snow, gravel, sand, and grass. In addition to the excellent off-road riding experience, the Flatlander is also a lot of fun on the road and can be useful for around-town cruising, daily commutes, and grocery runs.
Build Quality
Bakcou’s bikes have enjoyed a good reputation for their build quality, and the Flatlander is another prime example of this. The bike is well-constructed and ships with high-quality componentry. It also arrives well-packed and well-assembled from the factory, requiring only minor assembly by the customer.
Appearance
An aggressive, attention-getting ride, the Flatlander is a head turner wherever it’s ridden. The bike’s huge tires, front suspension fork, and rear cargo rack announce that it’s all business, we think the Flatlander looks great in each of the six color options.
Included Accessories & Optional Add-ons
The Flatlander includes front and rear fenders, a rear pannier rack, puncture-proof tire liner, and 2.0 A charger. Additionally, Bakcou also sells a growing range of replacement parts and accessories including batteries, chargers, hunting trailers, bags, tools, and more.
Warranty & Customer Support
The Bakcou team offers a 1-year warranty on all of its e-bikes. If a customer isn’t satisfied with their bike and decides to return it, Bakcou also provides a 30-day return window, although return shipping charges and a 15% restocking fee apply.
As far as customer service goes, there are several ways to reach the company. We’ve had the best experience with live chat and the company is super responsive to inquiries. Additionally, you can contact Bakcou via its toll-free phone number or website contact form.

Final Thoughts
Overall, we’re very impressed with Bakcou’s Flatlander model. This fully-loaded hunting e-bike offers riders a great range of features and options but makes some cost-saving compromises that are appropriate for customers who simply aren’t interested in the additional power (and more expensive price tag) that comes with some of Bakcou’s other rides such as the Storm or Mule.
The Flatlander is a nice option for serious hunters, anglers, and camping enthusiasts. It’s a nice-looking bike that is also very well-built and can be easily customized to suit your needs.
Whether you’re hauling camping gear for a multi-day adventure, heading deep into remote areas to go hunting, or carrying your rods and tackle box to the lake for a day of fishing, the Flatlander is a capable ride that you can feel confident riding.
The overall ride experience of this bike is excellent, and the Flatlander offers a nice mix of power, performance, and versatility. Considering what you get for your money, the bike is also relatively affordable, which makes it a nice option for folks who need a high-end electric bike but aren’t interested or able to spend a ton of money on it.
Lastly, Bakcou is a friendly, Utah-based brand that’s great to deal with. They have a great track record of looking after customers and are extremely easy to reach whenever an issue may arise.
All things considered, the Flatlander is a great-looking, high-performance fat tire e-bike that’s a solid option if you’re in the market for a versatile ride that won’t let you down.
